Dog Wash Feature on Brisbane Extra

Nose 2 Tail Pet Care was featured again on Brisbane Extra. This time we were giving tips to owners wanting to wash their dogs at home.

PET WASHING - Friday 20 March 2009

A lot of owners chose to wash their own pets, however we have a large clientele who for a number of reasons use either our mobile service or bring their dogs into our salon in Oxley so we can do the job for them!
Using a hydrobath service for your dog will allow your pet to have a much more thorough clean than what you can do at home with a hose or in the sink. The high pressure hose used gets right through their coat and down to the skin - they also enjoy the massage this provides!
Another benefit of a hydrobath is the water savings as the water is recycled while washing your dog, compared to it running down the drain when you wash them at home. Nose 2 Tail Pet Care uses fresh warm water for every dog that we bath, do there is never any concern about other dogs dirt getting onto your dog.

Evidence shows vaccinations for pets can cause damage

'Science of Vaccine Damage’ based on research from Purdue Veterinary School, provides a compelling report on the risks associated with vaccinating our pets.

I have had a conversation with my vet previously in regards to vaccinating my pets. He said that it wasn't really necessary to do them annually as most animals have a build up of the vaccines in their body. It is more so that owners have a reason to bring their animals in every year for a check up.

I personally don't think this is a good enough reason for vets to frequently be putting these chemicals straight into our animals. If new owners are told they need to bring their pets in for annual check ups I believe that most owners would be responsible enough to do this.

Sara & Al were Married on Stradbroke Island on Valentines Day. This was a great day and of course the Bride was stunning! Al scrubbed up pretty good too!

Meet The Staff

Reeda

Reeda is the owner of Nose 2 Tail Pet Care and opened the business as a sole trader in 2003. She started doing mobile hydrobathing, dog walking and pet sitting all on her own. As the business grew it was time to introduce new people to the Nose 2 Tail Pet Care family.

Reeda loves spending time with her family and looking after her pets. She has 2 Jack Russell's Harri & Nelson (pictured) and a black cat named Bella.

She is always on the look out for new and innovative ideas to implement into the business so she is never bored even though she spends a lot of her time working from home now.

Sara

Sara joined the team in 2006 and started out doing mobile hydrobathing and dog walking. Having recently finished up a job working on an island, this was a big change! Sara is now full time in the Oxley store clipping and grooming numerous dogs every week.

Sara has a Great Dane named Duke (pictured) who keeps her very busy and she is looking forward to showing him in the near future.

Sarah

Sarah joined the team in 2007 and spent all her time in the shop washing & hugging dogs. In mid 2008 she started training in dog grooming and is now full time in the store clipping and grooming the many dogs that come through. Somehow Sarah manages to remember the name of every dog that has ever entered the store! She has a big weakness for any animals with a squashed in face!

Sarah has 3 cats Rama, Abbie and Maisie and a black lab named Zoe (pictured). She is pretty keen to inherit one of Dukes offspring in the future!

Heather

Heather joined the team in 2007 and does a Lot of dog washing and grooming. She also gets out and walks a lot of our customers dogs. She is enjoying being able to surround herself with dogs as she has yet to convince her dad to let her have one of her own! She has a Siamese Fighting fish named "Dog"!

Shiona

Shiona joined Nose 2 Tail in 2009 and took over the mobile hydrobath so she spends half the week out and about visiting peoples homes to wash their dogs. She also helps out in the shop during the week.

Shiona has waaaayyyyy too many pets to list them all on here, but her menagerie consists of Nugget and Star (Sheltis pictured), Sadie (Rotti x), Snakes, Fish, Mice, Rats, Chickens and much much more

What is the difference between human grade and pet grade food?

Almost every pet owner wants to care for and nurture their four legged family member properly; providing their dog or cat with a good food is an integral part of that care.

A natural human tendency is to choose a dog food or cat food that looks like ‘people food’; pet owners want to provide their dog or cat the same quality of food they would prepare for any other member of the family. Some pet foods use ‘people food’ type ingredients, others do not. Worse news is discovering which pet foods use human grade/quality ingredients and which use lesser quality pet grade/quality ingredients is not as simply as it seems.

Pet food regulations do not provide pet owners with any laws or rules to guide them to higher quality ingredients or alerting them to lesser quality ingredients. It is almost as if pet food regulations are designed to purposely keep pet owners in the dark.

While some pet food manufacturers use the same quality of ingredients in their foods/treats that you find in your local grocer, others do not. The differences between the two grades of ingredients can be minor, or they can be huge; some pet grade/quality pet foods contain ingredients most would never consider feeding their pet, and as well, provide little quality nutrition. To add insult to injury, the pet food label gives little indication which grade/quality the manufacturer used.

One category of pet grade/quality meat ingredients in pet foods is known as 4D meats; from Dead, Diseased, Dying, and Disabled animals. Sick or dying animals are prohibited for use in human foods. Although the (American) Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act specifically states that no food (human or animal) can contain any diseased animal or any animal that has died other than by slaughter, the FDA ignores Federal law and allows these 4D animals to become pet grade/quality pet food ingredients. The FDA, AAFCO, and every State Agriculture Department believes that as long as diseased, dead, dying or disabled animals have been processed to kill pathogens (rendered), they are safe for pets to consume.

Another consideration of 4D pet grade ingredients is nutritional quality. When you ‘process’ a pet food long enough to kill known pathogens of diseased and dying animals, the nutrition that should be provided to the pet from these meat ingredients is greatly diminished if not completely destroyed.

Despite a lack of nutritional quality, the pet food decision makers believe 4D animals are safe for pets to consume, yet they do NOT provide petsumers with any notice a pet food might or might not contain these inferior ingredients.

One pet food company that only uses human grade ingredients is Eagle Pack. Because of this and also due to the proven benefits of feeding your pets this food we stock the Eagle Pack brand and feed it to all our animals. Eagle Pack uses Organic ingredients wherever possible and if it's not organic the ingredients are free range and pesticide free. They also have prebiotics, probiotics and acidophilus added to their Holistic Select range and are the only pet food that does!
